Eyes To See

Part of the apostle Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian believers (in Ephesian chapter one) is that “ the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. (Eph 1:18–19). How are the “eyes of our hearts” enlightened? We must read the preceding verse to find out - “ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.” (verse 17). Paul is speaking about something that takes place in our “spirit,” the deepest part of us where we commune with God by His Spirit. Paul desires that in that place of the spirit, God would give wisdom and revelation. That Revelation is in the “KNOwledge of Him.” This greek word for knowledge is a knowledge gained by experience. As we know Him by experiencing Him, the eyes of our heart “open up” and then we can dive deeper into the three things desired: 1) our hope, 2) the Riches of inheritance, and 3) the surpassing greatness of His power. What a prayer! Pray it now!
